The months that were February & March

The ‘Move’ and other Matters

Time has flown and it is almost time for my April ‘wrap-up’.  The ‘move’ to new premises – for the Art Centre and each artist was a massive undertaking.  It physically took place in early March.  Unfortunately I injured my shoulder badly during the move and it has taken all this time to regain my health and to gradually get back to things hat-related.  This week I will start setting-up my new studio space.

There is a mostly ‘mens’ hats’ theme in this blog posting.  I hope you enjoy it.

Did You Know?

Ecuador began producing the Panama Hat as early as 1630!
The hats were not exported until the early 1800’s.

Hat Quote

“Life is like a new hat. You don’t know if it suits you if you keep trying it on in front of your own mirror.”  Shirley McLaine.

In my Studio

One of my projects during March was to create a headpiece for a friend of mine.  She owns a gallery in Beaumont Street,  (Newcastle  NSW) where she opened a new exhibition called ‘Objects of Desire’.   Here is my interpretation.

Do you remember the black sinamay hat I was working on in late January?  I finished it earlier this month.

Each time I start working with sinamay I am freshly impressed with its beautiful sculptural properties.  Love it.

Packing and sorting the contents of my studio begins next month!  Very early on, our art centre is moving to a new site.  To limit the amount of materials I have to move I am beginning to sort and  throw out now.  ‘Tis a bit of a process as there are a lot of materials I haven’t used for 2 years.  Will let you know how it goes!

Thank you for reading.  If you would like to receive my posts regularly, please add your details to the link provided.

Warm regards,

Jennifer
